The idea of completely reconfiguring the coat closet can be a great idea. In our house it is just a pile of things on the floor so something simple like this can make a huge difference.ĥ. Plus it is easy to put away the out of season sports equipment or snow gear in tubs and store up high.Ĥ. What a perfect little nook for backpack storage. Brilliant! Keep the stinky dirty shoes outside. Also, It would be good for reminders to not forget their lunch.ģ. I would even put up each kids sports schedule so they can keep track of all of their practices. I love that the light switches blend right in with it and there are hooks on 2 levels.Ģ. I love the idea of a cork board for all the school papers. It looks like its own piece of furniture withe the molding and beadboard on the back. Such great use of a small wall right when you enter into the house. I am going to create our own area using a mix of all of these ideas. There are so many creative ideas for using small spaces in your home. We need a space for backpack storage in our house so I have turned to the internet to brainstorm ideas. It seems that if I had a mudroom everything would be magically organized. I found ours at Target during back-to-college time, which is usually when most of the stores have more colorful options available.Do you ever think, “if I trip over one more backpack on the floor I am going to freak out”? I wish so badly that we had a mud room. ( Note: It can sometimes be tricky to find the colorful bins. Opaque bins are great for hiding all of our necessary-but-not-pretty items and making them look organized! Hence, why I felt it was so important to use them in the garage. When Donnie is doing yard work or we are playing outside, the garage door will often be up, and neighbors can easily see in.Īnd if several people, including myself, are going to have to look at my stuff on a daily basis, I want it to look tidy. We walk through it every time we enter and exit the house. Unlike the basement, we (and others) see the garage a decent amount. Opaque bins or clear bins? I don’t know that I’ve ever met a bin that I didn’t like, but I felt pretty strongly about using opaque bins in the garage. So if you were thinking that it was always organized and we just had to tweak a few things to get it the way we wanted it, you would be wrong. Now before I get into the garage storage ideas that have worked oh-so-well for us, let me just give you a quick reminder of where our garage started: So for that reason, the time and effort it takes to get them organized is well worth it.
